In the world of social media, Instagram is one of the most popular platforms.
With nearly 1 billion active monthly users, it’s a great way to connect with friends and family.
But what happens when you want to create more accounts?
In order to prevent people from abusing their platform, Instagram limits the number of accounts an individual can have- but can you have an unlimited number of Instagram accounts?

Is There a Limit to How Many Instagram Accounts You Can Have?
For purposes of keeping the Instagram environment safe and fun, Instagram limits the number of Instagram accounts a user can have.
There’s a limit to how many accounts you can have on one device, and how many accounts you can create on one email or phone number, and there may also be limits to how many Instagram accounts you can run on the same network/IP address.
In this article, we’re going to discuss these limits and what you can do to get around them.

How Many Instagram Accounts Can You Have on One Phone?
As at the time of writing this article, Instagram allows you to have up to 5 Instagram accounts logged in on one device at the same time.
So, what happens when you try to add more accounts? You’ll certainly encounter the following error:
Can’t Add Account: You already have the maximum number of accounts active
If you want to log in on a 6th Instagram account on the same device, you’ll first have to remove at least one out of the 5 accounts that are already logged in on the same phone.
It’s pretty simple, and it goes like this:
- Tap the gear icon
- Scroll to the bottom and hit ‘Log Out of All Accounts‘
- You’ll land on the login page. Here, select ‘Manage Accounts‘ so that you can start removing the account(s) you wish to by hitting the ‘X‘
- Now select ‘Switch Accounts‘ to log into your 6th account
How Many Instagram Accounts Can You Have Under One Email?
Can I Have Multiple Instagram Accounts with One Email?
Theoretically, you can have only one Instagram account per email.
That’s true if your Instagram account was created on email providers other than Gmail. Luckily, Gmail users are able to use a simple trick to create multiple Instagram accounts using the same email.
Here’s how it works.
Say, for instance, your email address is example@gmail.com.
By putting a period between the letters in the first part of the email before ‘@’, you can easily create up to 7 different Instagram accounts with the following email addresses:
- example@gmail.com
- e.xample@gmail.com
- ex.ample@gmail.com
- exa.mple@gmail.com
- exam.ple@gmail.com
- examp.le@gmail.com
- exampl.e@gmail.com
Every notification or message from Instagram sent from any one of the 7 accounts will go to example@gmail.com.

You can create up to 5 Instagram accounts on one phone number. There’s currently no way around this and if you try to create a 6th account you’ll get an error similar to this one:

If you’ve run out of numbers, you may have to borrow from friends or family. People involved in Instagram automation usually prefer buying multiple numbers from online sellers.

How Many Instagram Accounts Can You Link to Facebook?
You can link multiple Instagram accounts to your Facebook profile. To be on the safe side, I’d recommend linking only up to 5 Instagram accounts, your main accounts.
The problem with linking multiple Instagram accounts to your Facebook profile is, if one of your Instagram accounts is disabled for a somewhat serious violation of Instagram’s policy, it could easily lead to a ban of your Facebook account even though it was not involved in the violation.
How Many Instagram Accounts Can U Have?
You’re limited to up to 5 Instagram accounts as an individual.
Businesses may be allowed to have more than 5 accounts without breaking Instagram’s policy, but the owners may also be required to submit legal documents that explain the nature of their business.
How to Manage More Than 5 Instagram Accounts
As an individual, however, you can source multiple cheap mobile phones from places like Amazon or Gearbest, create multiple Instagram accounts – up to 5 on each phone, and run your Instagram accounts separately.
If you intend to use your WiFi, then it’s a good idea to use a VPN on each phone.
This would be the ideal way of going around it if you’re running an Instagram growth agency and have a few tens of accounts to manage.
There are however some who are running hundreds to thousands of Instagram accounts using automation tools such as Jarvee.
This would require advanced knowledge and experience in automating Instagram accounts as their system has recently become very good at detecting automation and disabling accounts.
To avoid detection, these accounts would normally be run on proxy networks.
